In short

An Americano is a social padel format where you get a new partner every round and keep your own points. Each match is played to a fixed total of points, every player adds the points their side won, and whoever has the most points at the end wins.

How a round works

Four players share a court: two pairs. The pairs and courts for every round are drawn at the start, so partners and opponents rotate as evenly as the numbers allow. Every rally counts as one point, with no games or sets.

A match ends when the agreed total has been played. With 24 points, a 15–9 match gives 15 points to both winners and 9 to both losers. Those points go to each player's own total, not to a team.

How many points to play

16, 21, 24 and 32 are the usual totals; 24 is a common default and the one Rondeo starts with. Pick a lower total for more rounds in the same court time. An odd total such as 21 can't end in a draw. Some groups play to a timer instead and count the points scored when it rings.

Players, courts and rests

Each court takes 4 players, so a multiple of 4 fills every court. Any other number works too: the extra players rest for a round, in turns, and a fair schedule shares the rests evenly.

To partner everyone else once, each player needs one round per other player: 7 rounds with 8 players, 11 with 12. Most evenings play fewer, which is fine as long as repeats are spread out.

Who wins

The player with the most points after the last round wins. Agree a tie-break before you start; matches won is the most common one.
