Padel Mexicano rules
In short
A Mexicano is an Americano that is drawn one round at a time from the standings. Everyone still keeps their own points, but after round 1 the top four players share a court, then the next four, and so on, so the games get closer as the evening goes on.
How the rounds are drawn
- Round 1 is drawn at random, or by level if you know it.
- When a round is finished, rank the players by total points.
- Fill the courts in ranking order: places 1 to 4 on the first court, 5 to 8 on the next.
- On each court, 1st and 4th play against 2nd and 3rd. That evens out the two sides.
Some groups pair 1st with 3rd, or 1st with 2nd, instead; Rondeo lets you pick. With a number of players that isn't a multiple of 4, the rests are shared in turns, just as in an Americano.
Scoring
The same as an Americano: each match is played to a fixed total such as 24 points, and every player adds the points their side won. The most points after the last round wins.
Americano or Mexicano?
| Americano | Mexicano | |
|---|---|---|
| Draw | Every round at the start | One round at a time, from the standings |
| Partners | Rotate through everyone | Players near you in the ranking |
| Games | Mixed levels, more lopsided scores | Closer as the night goes on |
| Best for | Social nights, mixed groups, meeting everyone | Groups that want tight games and a real ranking |
Because each round depends on the last scores, a Mexicano needs every score entered before the next round can be drawn.
